DVD Player not working

when the complele unit is switched on the display shows "change 1" and the disc is spinning. None of the buttons on the unit work and nither the tuner or tape decks cannot be selected. If the plug at the back of the DVD unit is disconnected then the tuner and tape decks can be selected and work noemally.
